Choose a carpet strategy
Lifting keeps pads attached while crossing compatible rugs; detaching pads leaves them at the dock and changes the cleaning sequence. Measure rug thickness including its backing and raised edges. A lift specification does not guarantee dry contact clearance on every textile. Decide whether avoiding rugs entirely during wet cleaning would be simpler.
Distinguish floor washing from pad washing
A dock that heats water for pad washing does not necessarily apply that temperature to your floor. Read where each advertised temperature is measured. Compare whether the robot returns to wash pads during a run and whether the interval can be adjusted. More frequent washing may trade cleaner pads for additional tank refills.
Let flooring instructions set the boundary
Identify each floor's finish and installation type. Use its manufacturer's cleaning instructions to decide whether wet cleaning is permitted before choosing water settings. Establish no-mop zones around incompatible areas. Broad robot surface descriptions do not override a particular floor warranty or resolve exposed edges, damaged coatings and gaps.
Design the sequence you need
Write a route such as vacuum rugs first and mop the kitchen afterward. Check whether the exact model can implement it without daily changes. Both selected premium examples describe removable mops, but package and model details still matter. Evaluate the sequence, water handling and cleanup together instead of choosing by the number of modes.
- Measure rug edges and required clearance.
- Check the allowed cleaning solution.
- Reserve access for removing tanks and washing the tray.
Work through a mixed-floor example
Imagine a washable kitchen reached through a living room with a thick rug. Your decision is not simply whether the robot can mop. It is whether it can travel between the station and kitchen using a route that respects both surfaces, then return with wet pads without touching the rug. Draw this path before comparing models. If a safe route requires moving the rug each time, consider moving the dock or choosing a different cleaning sequence rather than accepting a recurring chore.
Price the automation you will actually use
List the tasks you want delegated: attaching pads, washing pads, drying them, or moving between vacuuming and mopping. Mark which tasks the exact package advertises and which remain manual. Do not assign value to every feature equally. Someone who mops one room weekly has a different workload from a household running several compatible rooms daily. Include tank carrying and tray cleaning in the comparison, because those tasks determine whether the automated routine remains convenient after the first week.
